The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to march to the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) today, Monday, July 13, to demand answers over the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said the demonstration is aimed at seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding Aboagye’s arrest, which the NPP believes is an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition.
Speaking on Channel One News on Sunday, Nana Boakye claimed that Aboagye had never received any invitation from EOCO, nor had he been informed that he was under investigation or accused of any offence before his arrest.
“Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation,” he said.
He argued that the growing use of state institutions against political opponents raises concerns about Ghana’s democratic principles and the protection of due process.
While reaffirming the NPP’s commitment to accountability, Nana Boakye said the party would cooperate with any lawful investigation involving its members, provided the appropriate legal procedures are followed.
The planned protest follows claims by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, who alleged in a Facebook post that Dennis Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officers with the assistance of Immigration officials at the Kotoka International Airport.
According to the statement, Aboagye’s legal team has been denied access to him, his whereabouts remain unknown, and no formal charges have been filed.
