Carlos Queiroz is expected to remain in charge of Ghana’s senior national team after winning the confidence of both the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The Portuguese coach, who was appointed on a short-term contract ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is reportedly close to signing a new two-year deal that will keep him at the helm of the Black Stars.
The decision comes after a review of Ghana’s World Cup campaign. Although the Black Stars were eliminated in the Round of 32, football authorities believe Queiroz made significant progress during his brief time in charge.
Officials are said to have been impressed by the team’s improved discipline, tactical organisation and clearer style of play, viewing those developments as a strong foundation for the future.
If the agreement is finalised, Queiroz’s immediate priority will be to guide Ghana through qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations before leading the Black Stars at the tournament. The four-time African champions are aiming to end a long wait for continental success, having last lifted the AFCON trophy in 1982.
The experienced coach, who has previously managed Portugal, Iran, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar and South Africa, is also expected to oversee the continued rebuilding of the national team as Ghana looks to establish itself once again among Africa’s elite football nations.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days, with both the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation optimistic that Queiroz is the right man to lead the Black Stars into the next chapter.
