Mobile money transactions in Ghana climbed to GH¢493.2 billion in April 2026, supported by 967 million transactions, according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2026.
The figure represents an increase from GH¢484.6 billion recorded in March 2026, reflecting sustained expansion in the country’s digital payments ecosystem.
The report shows continued growth across key mobile money indicators. Registered mobile money accounts rose to 83 million in April 2026, up from 80.5 million in December 2025, while active accounts stood at 26 million.
The agent network also expanded, with registered agents increasing to 992,000 and active agents reaching 534,000, strengthening access points for digital financial services across the country.
Mobile money float balances rose to GH¢36.7 billion in April, compared to GH¢35.4 billion in March, indicating higher liquidity circulating within the ecosystem.
Interoperability transactions within the mobile money space totalled GH¢5.8 billion, involving 31.7 million transactions during the month.
Other electronic payment channels also recorded strong activity. Cheque clearing transactions stood at GH¢36.6 billion from 413,000 transactions, while Automated Clearing House Direct Credit transactions reached GH¢13.5 billion from 816,000 transactions.
The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Instant Pay platform also saw notable growth, rising to GH¢79 billion in April 2026 from GH¢71.5 billion in March, with nearly 19.9 million transactions processed.
Overall, the data points to continued deepening of Ghana’s digital payments landscape, driven by increased adoption of mobile money and instant payment systems.
