Dr Bawumia Rallies NPP Minority Caucus for Unity and Renewed Push Ahead of 2029 Ambition

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has met with the party’s Minority Caucus on Wednesday, May 20, as Parliament prepares for the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament.

The engagement, according to him, was aimed at shaping a clear and strategic direction for both the party and the country ahead of the new parliamentary session.

Dr Bawumia stressed that the NPP’s immediate priority is to rebuild trust, strengthen internal unity, and present itself as a credible alternative to the governing administration.

“Our focus is to rebuild and offer credible alternatives and to hold the government accountable,” he said, underscoring the party’s renewed commitment to its opposition role in Parliament.

He further urged Members of Parliament on the Minority side to remain united and guided by evidence-based leadership in their legislative and oversight duties.

“Unity and evidence-based leadership will define the NPP’s conduct both inside and outside Parliament,” he noted.

Dr Bawumia also indicated that the party had moved past its post-election reflection period following its 2024 electoral defeat, adding that attention must now shift firmly to rebuilding public confidence.

“We have finished the period of introspection. We must now position ourselves credibly as a party preparing to govern from January 7, 2029,” he stated.

The meeting is expected to strengthen coordination between the NPP flagbearer and the Minority Caucus as the party outlines its strategy going forward in Parliament and beyond.
