The government is targeting GH¢10 million by the end of 2026 for the Ghana Agricultural Fund for Education and Transformation, an initiative aimed at creating sustainable funding for agricultural education, skills development and capacity building.
So far, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has mobilised GH¢3.5 million, representing 35% of the 2026 target. This leaves a funding gap of GH¢6.5 million to be raised by December.
Launching the Fund, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, said the amount raised so far provides a strong foundation for the initiative.
He said the government’s immediate goal is to grow the Fund to GH¢10 million by the end of 2026, with a much more ambitious target of GH¢100 million by 2028.
“Our immediate ambition is to grow the fund to GH¢10 million by 2026 and to GH¢100 million by 2028. These are bold targets, but they are achievable,” he said.
Mr Opoku called for stronger collaboration between government, the private sector, financial institutions, development partners and other stakeholders, stressing that agricultural education should be treated as a shared national responsibility.
“If every stakeholder represented here accepts agricultural education as a shared national responsibility, certainly we can achieve our dreams,” he said.
The Minister also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in managing the Fund, saying contributors must have confidence that their resources will be professionally managed and used for clearly identified needs in agricultural education and skills development.
The Fund is expected to create an avenue for businesses, financial institutions, development partners and other organisations to support the development of skilled human capital for Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Government believes the initiative will help strengthen the country’s agricultural workforce, improve skills and ultimately contribute to higher productivity across the sector.
