Government Secures 120 Jobs for Ghanaian Evacuees from South Africa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has secured 120 job opportunities for Ghanaians who were recently evacuated from South Africa following rising xenophobic tensions.

According to the Ministry, the jobs have been made available through Ghanaian business owners who have stepped forward to support the reintegration of citizens returning home. The initiative is part of efforts to help affected evacuees rebuild their lives in Ghana.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, the Ministry called on more entrepreneurs and Chief Executive Officers across the country to participate by offering employment opportunities to returning nationals.

“We invite Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs desirous of employing Ghanaians returning from South Africa to contact the Delivery Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the statement said.

The Ministry noted that its Delivery Unit, led by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, is coordinating the programme and remains available to engage prospective employers through a dedicated contact line.

It added that so far, 120 job placements have been secured, and encouraged more private sector actors to support what it described as a national effort to assist affected citizens.

The initiative follows government’s evacuation exercise for Ghanaians caught up in the recent wave of anti-foreigner attacks in South Africa. In total, about 300 citizens have so far been brought back home.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and dignity of Ghanaians abroad, stressing that efforts are ongoing to ensure smooth reintegration for all evacuees.
