EC Leadership Shake-Up as Bossman Asare Resigns and Samuel Tettey Retires

A major transition is underway at Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) following the resignation of Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, and the retirement of Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey.

The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, June 15.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, Dr. Asare’s resignation will take effect on July 31, 2026. In his resignation letter, Dr. Asare explained that he intends to return to academia and continue his professional work at the University of Ghana.

He also expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve the nation through the Electoral Commission.

At the same time, Samuel Tettey has officially retired from his role as Deputy Chairperson responsible for Operations, bringing an end to his tenure at the Commission.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that steps are already being taken to fill the vacancies created by the departures. He revealed that a nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration as part of the constitutional process required for new appointments.

He explained that once the Council of State concludes its review, an official announcement will be made regarding Mr. Tettey’s replacement. A separate process will then be initiated to appoint a successor to Dr. Bossman Asare.

The simultaneous exit of two senior officials marks a significant moment for the Electoral Commission, an institution that plays a critical role in Ghana’s democratic governance and electoral administration.

The EC is expected to provide additional information on the leadership transition and appointment process in the coming weeks as preparations continue for the next phase of the Commission’s operations.
