Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has officially handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, bringing his tenure as caretaker of the ministry to an end.
The handover took place on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Ministry of Defence and was formally completed with the signing of the relevant handover documents by both ministers.
Dr Ato Forson was assigned to oversee the Defence Ministry by President John Dramani Mahama following the death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash.
After serving as caretaker of the ministry for about a year, Dr Ato Forson has now transferred responsibility to Mr Adjei, who has been appointed the new Defence Minister.
Mr Adjei is expected to assume full responsibility for the ministry and lead the implementation of the government’s defence policies and programmes.
He was moved from the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Defence Ministry as part of President Mahama’s ministerial reshuffle announced on Friday, August 7, 2026.
