Stonebwoy Sets Historic TGMA Record With 10th Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year Win

At the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), one of the scheme’s most competitive categories once again produced a defining moment  and at the centre of it stood Stonebwoy.

The Ghanaian reggae and dancehall star extended his dominance in remarkable fashion, winning the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award for the 10th time, a feat no artiste has achieved in the history of the awards scheme.

On a night where he earned seven nominations, Stonebwoy converted his campaign into a landmark victory, overcoming strong competition from industry heavyweights including Samini and Ras Kuuku, widely known as the “Ghetto Youth President.”

Since the category was introduced in 2015, it has become one of the most talked-about honours at the TGMAs, often serving as a measure of consistency, influence, and longevity within Ghana’s music industry.

Over the years, Stonebwoy has turned the category into his own territory.

His latest triumph now takes his total wins to 10, making him the most decorated artiste in the history of the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year category. Beyond the numbers, the achievement reflects nearly a decade of sustained relevance and influence in Ghanaian music.

Interestingly, only two artistes have managed to break his hold on the category  Ras Kuuku and Epixode. Their victories in 2020 and 2021 came during a period when Stonebwoy was absent from the race. Once he returned, however, he quickly re-established his dominance and reclaimed control of the category.

This latest milestone also places Stonebwoy in a league of his own within TGMA history.

He is now the first artiste ever to record double-digit wins in a single category since the inception of the awards scheme over two decades ago   a record that could remain unmatched for years.

From his early beginnings in dancehall to becoming one of Africa’s most recognised music exports, Stonebwoy’s journey has been defined by resilience, growth, and consistency.

With 10 Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year wins now to his name, Stonebwoy’s legacy in the category has moved beyond dominance.
