Round of 32 Beckons as Ghana Secure World Cup Qualification

Ghana have officially secured their place in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming one of the first nations to confirm qualification for the knockout stage before the final round of group matches.

The Black Stars booked their place after collecting four points from their opening two matches in Group L. Otto Addo’s men began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama before producing a disciplined performance to hold England to a goalless draw.

With results from other groups working in their favour, FIFA has confirmed that four points are enough to guarantee progression under the tournament’s expanded 48-team format, which allows additional teams to advance to the knockout phase.

Ghana are joined by England, Portugal, Paraguay, Egypt and Senegal as the teams that have already secured passage to the Round of 32 ahead of the final group fixtures.

Although qualification is assured, the Black Stars still have an important task ahead when they face Croatia in their last Group L encounter. The outcome of the match will determine Ghana’s final position in the group and could have a major impact on their route through the knockout rounds.

A victory could see Ghana finish top of the group, while any slip could leave them progressing as runners-up. Either way, the Black Stars have already taken a significant step forward in their quest to make a deep run at the World Cup.

Ghana’s Round of 32 opponents will be confirmed after the completion of the final round of group-stage matches.
