New Deputy EC Chair Pledges to Deliver Without Fear or Favour

Newly sworn-in Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Joseph Kweku Asamoah, has pledged that the Commission will carry out its electoral responsibilities without fear or favour.

He made the commitment on Monday, October 12, 2026, during his swearing-in ceremony alongside fellow Deputy Chairperson Emelia Afi Agbenyo.

Speaking on behalf of both appointees, Dr Asamoah urged Ghanaians to actively engage with the EC, participate in its activities and offer constructive criticism to help strengthen the institution.

“We expect Ghanaians to engage the Electoral Commission, to participate in the commission, to critique the commission in order to make it a perfect institution that you all help to create,” he said.

He assured the public of their commitment to serving impartially, appealing to President John Dramani Mahama for the support needed to fulfil their mandate.

“May we seek your audience and may we seek your power here, Mr President, to promise that we will deliver without fear or favour,” he stated.

Dr Asamoah stressed that credible elections required a collective effort and could not be achieved by the Electoral Commission alone.

He identified political parties, Parliament, the security services, civil society organisations, the judiciary, the media and ordinary citizens as key stakeholders whose involvement was essential to ensuring credible elections.

“Political parties, parliament, security services, civil society, the judiciary, the media and every citizen must play a role. And we call on all of you to join hands with us,” he said.
