GRIDCo Names Frank Asirifi Otchere as New CEO Amid Push to Strengthen Power Transmission

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has appointed Ing. Frank Asirifi Otchere as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective May 8, 2026, as the state-owned power transmission company intensifies efforts to improve operational stability and efficiency within Ghana’s energy sector.

The appointment was announced in an official circular signed by the Board Chairlady, Kuukua Maurice Ankrah.

As part of the latest management reshuffle, Ing. Samuel Nkansah has also been appointed Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance and Resources.

In addition, Ing. Samed Abdul Ibrahim, who currently serves as Director of the Project Implementation Unit, has been named Acting Deputy Chief Executive for Engineering and Operations.

Ing. Otchere now takes over leadership of GRIDCo at a critical period for the company and Ghana’s power sector. GRIDCo plays a central role in transmitting electricity across the country and facilitating regional power exchanges within the West African Power Pool.

The company has in recent months faced growing operational pressures, including challenges linked to power transmission reliability and infrastructure management.

One of the most significant incidents occurred recently when a fire outbreak at the Akosombo switchyard control room disrupted parts of electricity transmission and generation operations, affecting sections of the national grid.

In the circular announcing the appointments, GRIDCo called on staff to offer the newly appointed executives the “necessary cooperation and support” to help them effectively carry out their responsibilities.

The leadership changes are expected to support ongoing efforts to strengthen the company’s operations, improve grid stability and enhance power transmission across the country.
