ECG Announces Planned Maintenance, Fault Repairs Triggering Power Outages Across Six Regions

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced planned maintenance works alongside emergency fault repairs that will lead to power outages in parts of six regions on Tuesday, June 9.

The affected regions include the Eastern, Greater Accra, Volta, Ashanti, and Western Regions. ECG says the exercise is aimed at improving service reliability while fixing technical faults on the national grid.

In a notice, the power distributor explained that supply will be interrupted at different times depending on the location, with works expected to last between the morning and late afternoon.

In the Eastern Region, communities such as Pikiku, Mame Krobo, Tease, Donkorkrom, Forifori and surrounding areas will experience outages between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Parts of the Tema Region, including Communities 3 and 5, Sakumono Estates, Emef Estates (Lashibi), Aviation, Tsopoli and nearby areas, will also be without electricity from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In the Greater Accra East enclave, areas such as Ashongman, Nanakrom, Boi, Seseme and nearby communities are expected to face outages from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For the Accra West area, Darkuman, Kokompe, Israel Park, Ayigbe Junction and surrounding communities will be affected from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to scheduled maintenance. Additional fault repairs at Nsawam Primary Station have also disrupted supply to Hebron, Medie, Samsam and nearby locations.

The Volta Region will see interruptions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. affecting Akatsi, Dzodze, Ave Town, Kopeiya and surrounding communities.

In the Ashanti Region, multiple maintenance operations will impact several communities. These include Nerebehi, Offinso, Mfensi, Adankwame, Barekese, Kodie and others between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Another set of works from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. will also affect Atonsu, Gyinyase, Kotei, Chirapatre and surrounding areas.

Separately, ECG reported faults in the Western Region after a damaged high-tension pole at Ankasa cut power to communities such as Enchi, Elubo, Asemkrom and nearby towns. In Ashanti West, a transformer fault near the Adum Central Business District has also affected parts of the commercial area.

ECG has apologised for the inconvenience and urged residents to plan ahead for the outages. The company assured the public that engineers are working to restore power and normalise supply as soon as possible once repairs and maintenance are completed.
