Bryan Acheampong Urges Ken Agyapong to ‘Lower the Temperature’ and Help Rebuild NPP Unity

Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has called on former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong to put aside his differences with the party and support efforts to restore unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.

His appeal follows recent remarks by the former Assin Central MP, who insisted that he would not be intimidated or silenced by critics within the NPP. Kennedy Agyapong warned that persistent attacks and attempts to discredit him could lead him to reveal more information about happenings within the party.

“NPP should be careful with me, saying I am bitter. If they provoke me, I will spill the beans all over the place,” he cautioned.

Responding in a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, Dr Acheampong said he understood the emotions that often follow a fiercely contested presidential race, having also participated in the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primary.

“I speak to you today not as a bystander to our recent contest, but as one who stood in it,” he stated. “I understand the weight of disappointment that follows a hard-fought campaign and the depth of emotion invested by candidates and supporters alike.”

The Abetifi lawmaker stressed that the NPP’s priority should be rebuilding after its defeat in the 2024 general election.

“Our party suffered a painful defeat in 2024. The single most important task before us between now and 2028 is to rebuild, to reunite, and to return to power,” he said.

While acknowledging Kennedy Agyapong’s longstanding contributions to the party, Dr Acheampong expressed concern about recent comments that he believes could deepen divisions within the NPP.

“Ken is a son of this party. A man whose energy, resources and loyalty over decades cannot be questioned,” he noted.

“It is for that very reason that I urge him, respectfully but firmly, to lower the temperature and to lend his considerable influence to the work of healing rather than division.”

Dr Acheampong also appealed to supporters on all sides of the party’s internal contest to avoid actions that could further polarise the NPP.

“So, I appeal to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, to his supporters, and to mine: let us lay down the weapons of internal warfare,” he said.

“Let us close ranks behind our flagbearer so that in 2028 we restore the New Patriotic Party to the service of the people of Ghana.”

He concluded by stressing that personal grievances should not stand in the way of the party’s broader objective of regaining power, insisting that unity remains the NPP’s strongest path to electoral recovery.
