No ban on AirPods or earphones while driving – Ghana Police

The Ghana Police Service has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the use of AirPods, earphones and other audio devices while driving or riding is prohibited by law.

In a statement shared on Facebook on Tuesday, August 18, the Police said a flyer making the claim was neither issued nor authorised by the Service and urged the public to disregard it.

The Service said its Cybercrime Unit is working to identify the individuals behind the publication.

Despite dismissing the claim, the Police cautioned motorists, motorcyclists and other road users against using devices or engaging in activities that could distract them or affect their attention, hearing, control of their vehicles or awareness of surrounding traffic.

It urged road users to minimise distractions and exercise maximum caution while using the roads.

The Police also encouraged motorists and other road users to familiarise themselves with and comply with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519), as well as other applicable road traffic laws.

According to the Service, compliance with these regulations is essential to reducing road crashes and protecting lives.

The Police further advised the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information on road traffic regulations and other public safety matters.

It reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing road traffic laws fairly and professionally while working with relevant stakeholders to improve road safety across the country.
