Asamoah Gyan Named Ambassador for Ghana’s National Teams and Colts Football

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan as Brand Ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football, in a ceremony held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Pelican Hotel.

The announcement marks a major move by the football governing body to strengthen public engagement and rebuild stronger support for national teams as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Gyan, Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 international goals, is widely celebrated as one of the country’s most influential football figures. He represented the Black Stars at three FIFA World Cups in 2006, 2010, and 2014, and remains remembered for scoring Ghana’s first-ever World Cup goal against the Czech Republic in Germany in 2006.

In his new role, the former captain is expected to lead nationwide campaigns aimed at boosting fan support for the national teams. These will include public activations, fan engagement programmes, and promotional activities designed to bring supporters closer to the Black Stars and other national sides.

Beyond senior national team duties, Gyan will also focus on Colts football development, supporting initiatives aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent across the country. His involvement is expected to help shine a stronger spotlight on grassroots football structures that feed into the national setup.

He is also expected to play a key role in attracting sponsorships and commercial partnerships to support the growth and sustainability of Ghana football.

The GFA says the appointment forms part of a broader strategy to leverage the experience and popularity of former national stars to inspire the next generation and strengthen the overall image of Ghana football both locally and internationally.
