Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh, has called on the government to strengthen policies and regulatory frameworks to ensure Ghana fully benefits from the growing global carbon credit market.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he noted that the carbon market presents a major opportunity for national development, stressing that it should go beyond climate action to deliver tangible benefits such as job creation, increased investment, and improved protection for local communities.
According to him, Ghana must put in place transparent regulations that safeguard the country’s national interest while ensuring that carbon credit projects meet high integrity standards.
Annoh Dompreh also highlighted the need to build local technical expertise to manage the sector effectively. He further urged authorities to strengthen the Ghana Carbon Registry and improve coordination among key institutions involved in climate and environmental governance.
He expressed confidence that with the right policies and strong oversight, Ghana can position itself as a leading destination for credible carbon market investments in Africa, while at the same time securing its long-term development goals.
