Renovation works on Terminal 2 of the Kotoka International Airport are expected to be completed by December 2026, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced.
The $15 million project is aimed at modernising the terminal and expanding its use to accommodate both domestic and international flights. The move is expected to ease the increasing pressure on Terminal 3, which currently handles a significant volume of passenger traffic.
GACL Managing Director, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, disclosed the timeline on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, when members of Parliament’s Roads and Transportation Committee visited the airport as part of an oversight exercise.
According to her, part of Terminal 2 has already been partitioned to allow domestic flight operations to continue while renovation works on the international section are completed.
“We have partitioned it. The other side has the domestic travellers going through. Because we want to unveil this place when His Excellency comes to commission it, we don’t want to start using that is why we have partitioned it,” she explained.
Ms. Opare said the company is hopeful that all remaining works will be completed by December, paving the way for the terminal to be officially commissioned.
“Hopefully by December, we will finish all the works with Terminal 2 and His Excellency will have the opportunity to come and commission it,” she told the committee.
Once fully operational, the refurbished Terminal 2 is expected to increase passenger-handling capacity at Kotoka International Airport, reduce congestion at Terminal 3 and provide travellers with improved facilities and a more efficient airport experience.
