Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, the former Deputy Majority Leader said her decision followed consultations with party leaders, executives and other stakeholders, as well as personal reflection on her commitment to the constituency.
She said she would formally present herself as a candidate when the NPP announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad based engagement with party leadership and executives and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the Principles and Values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries,” she stated.
Adwoa Safo explained that although she had previously expressed interest in pursuing opportunities outside the constituency, further reflection had convinced her that she still had a role to play in representing the people of Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament.
“Earlier, I had indicated my intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency. However, upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate, that, there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in Parliament,” she said.
Her latest announcement signals a renewed attempt to secure the NPP’s parliamentary candidacy after serving as the MP for Dome-Kwabenya for 12 years.
She said her decision was driven by her continued commitment to the constituency and her belief that she could contribute further to its development.
The former legislator also appealed to party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage with her as discussions about the constituency’s future leadership continue.
She said she remained committed to building a constituency where young people could realise their potential, families could thrive and the concerns of ordinary residents would receive the attention they deserve.
