The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes, stating that there will be no probation.
The directive was announced in a notice issued by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate and published on its official Facebook page.
The notice reminded undergraduate students of Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the academic requirements for progression to the next level.
Under the regulation, students must attain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy the additional requirements of their respective schools or departments to progress academically.
The university said the withdrawal requirement applies after all grades for courses registered during the 2025/2026 academic year have been released. Students whose final CGPA falls below the required minimum will not be eligible for probation.
How to initiate the withdrawal process
Affected students have been advised to first check their CGPAs through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web.
They must then log in to the Student Services (STS) Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN, and select the “Withdrawal Request” option to begin the process.
The university noted that, for some programmes, the relevant school or department will initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students. However, the notice did not specify which programmes fall under this arrangement.
Students who require further clarification have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
The university’s Careers and Counselling Directorate is also available to provide support and guidance to students who may need assistance.
