The Ghana AIDS Commission says about 23,000 people are living with HIV in the Western Region, with an estimated three new infections recorded daily.
The Commission’s 2025 HIV estimates and projections, released this year, put the number of people living with the virus in the region at over 23,000.
Speaking to Channel One TV in Sekondi during an HIV/AIDS Stakeholders Review Meeting, the Western Regional Technical Coordinator of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Antonio Francis, said although new infections have declined slightly, the region continues to record an estimated 992 new cases annually.
He explained that this translates to approximately three new HIV infections every day.
Antonio Francis warned that the persistent rate of new infections could threaten Ghana’s efforts to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
He stressed the need for effective treatment and strengthened prevention measures to reduce new infections and ensure that people living with HIV receive the care they need.
