Government Reaffirms Commitment to Complete Bokoro District Hospital Project

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assured Parliament that the government remains committed to completing the Bokoro District Hospital project in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, June 16, Mr Akandoh disclosed that construction of the hospital is currently 86.5 per cent complete. He noted that the facility has been selected as one of 35 projects to be completed under the first phase of the government’s Agenda 111 programme.

According to the Minister, construction work on the project was halted in 2024 due to funding challenges. However, he indicated that the contractor has since been engaged and is expected to remobilise to site to continue the remaining works.

Mr Akandoh further revealed that the Ministry of Health has submitted outstanding Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) to the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the release of funds needed to settle payments owed to the contractor.

He explained that government is taking steps to address the financial constraints affecting the project and accelerate work to ensure the hospital is completed and made operational within the shortest possible time.

When completed, the Bokoro District Hospital is expected to improve healthcare delivery in the Ahanta West Constituency by providing residents with easier access to essential medical services and reducing pressure on existing health facilities in the area.

The Health Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system through continued investment in health infrastructure, stressing that the completion of the Bokoro District Hospital remains a key priority.
