Ghana Welcomes Halima H. Hashi as New AfDB Country Manager

Ghana has officially received a new Country Manager for the African Development Bank (AfDB), marking another step in the country’s long-standing partnership with the continental financial institution.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who disclosed that he had the honour of receiving the open letters of credence from Halima H. Hashi on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Welcoming her to Ghana, Hon  Ablakwa highlighted the country’s deep appreciation for the African Development Bank’s contribution to national development over the years. He noted that since the establishment of its Ghana office in 1973, the Bank has played a significant role in supporting key sectors of the economy.

He further acknowledged the AfDB’s continued backing of several flagship government programmes, including the Big Push infrastructure agenda, Feed Ghana initiative, the Eastern Corridor Road project, as well as interventions in artificial intelligence and irrigation.

According to the Minister, Ghana currently benefits from an active AfDB investment portfolio valued at approximately US$1.3 billion, reflecting the strength of the partnership between the country and the Bank.

Hon  Ablakwa also assured that President John Dramani Mahama will continue to provide leadership in his role as the African Union Champion for African Financial Institutions, particularly in advancing efforts toward financial sovereignty and ensuring that African resources are retained on the continent to fund critical infrastructure.

Describing the appointment as significant, he extended a warm welcome to Ms Hashi, a Tanzanian national, and expressed confidence in her ability to deliver a successful and impactful tenure in Ghana.

“A warm Ghanaian welcome to our Tanzanian sister. I wish her a successful and transformative tenure,” Hon  Ablakwa wrote in a post on X.
