Ghana Gas has announced a planned five-hour shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant as part of efforts to complete critical repair works on its system.
The shutdown, scheduled to take place from midnight to 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, is aimed at finalising the installation of a new Burner Management System (BMS) controller. The move follows a major fault identified earlier this month, which caused significant damage to the plant’s existing controller and required a full replacement.
According to Ghana Gas, preparatory and enabling works toward the replacement are already about 90 percent complete. The temporary shutdown will allow engineers to safely complete the installation and restore full system functionality.
The company, in collaboration with GRIDCo, has assured the public that adequate technical and operational measures have been put in place to ensure the work is completed within the scheduled timeframe. Both institutions also say contingency plans have been developed to minimise any potential disruption to power supply during the shutdown period.
Ghana Gas emphasised its commitment to maintaining a stable and reliable energy supply, noting that the maintenance exercise is necessary to strengthen operational efficiency and long-term system reliability.
The company also apologised to the public for any inconvenience the planned shutdown may cause, stressing that the short-term disruption is essential to prevent more serious challenges in the future.
