Minority Leader Vows to Ensure Cocoa Farmers Receive Due Payments

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has pledged that Parliament will take firm action to guarantee that cocoa farmers receive the payments owed to them by the government.

Speaking at the NPP Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, following the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer, Mr. Afenyo-Markin expressed concern over ongoing delays in cocoa farmer payments, despite recent government reforms designed to support the sector.

He emphasized that farmers are not concerned with political speeches or social media debates. “What cocoa farmers want is simple they want their money. Pay them what is due,” he said.

Highlighting the financial impact of these delays, the Minority Leader noted that “every cocoa farmer is losing 10 million cedis per bag. That is the issue at hand.”

Mr. Afenyo-Markin further stated that Parliament would closely monitor the situation this week and hold the government accountable. “In this regard, this week, Parliament will be hot. They’d pay cocoa farmers their money,” he affirmed.
