The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, which occurred at Kwabenya on June 21, 2026.
According to a police statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, officers retrieved several weapons and communication equipment during a follow-up search at the scene.
The items recovered include five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication devices believed to have been used by the suspects.
Preliminary investigations indicate that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya. The officers reportedly proceeded to the scene after the alert was raised.
Upon arrival, investigators established that a ceremony was ongoing at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena. It is alleged that Adwoa Safo later arrived at the location and requested entry but was denied access.
Police further disclosed that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly opened fire during the confrontation. Adwoa Safo sustained injuries as a result, and her vehicle was found with multiple bullet marks.
The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations at Police Headquarters. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest additional individuals who may be connected to the incident.
