Road Minister Orders Termination of Bogoso–Prestea Road Contractor Over Delays

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Highways Authority, Mallam Issah Ishak, to begin immediate processes to terminate the contract of Black Oak, the company handling the Bogoso–Prestea Road project.

The decision follows concerns over the contractor’s slow pace of work and alleged abandonment of the site despite being awarded the contract in 2025.

According to official reports, Black Oak only moved to the project site in March 2026. After carrying out limited activities, including clearing vegetation along portions of the road, the contractor reportedly suspended work, citing the absence of the project’s road design.

However, further assessment by the Regional Highways Engineer indicated that less than two percent of the total project had been completed.

Mr. Agbodza issued the directive during an inspection tour of ongoing “Big Push” infrastructure projects in the Western Region. Although the Bogoso–Prestea Road is not officially listed under the government’s Big Push programme, the Minister stressed that the road remains a critical project that cannot be allowed to stall.

“We will not allow any contractor to delay this project,” the Minister stated, insisting that the Ghana Highways Authority should fast-track the termination process to pave the way for a new contractor to continue the work without further setbacks.

The Bogoso–Prestea Road has long been a major concern for residents and motorists in the Western Region due to its deteriorating condition and the impact on transportation and economic activities.
