Queiroz Names 28-Man Black Stars Squad for World Cup Preparations and Wales Friendly

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man squad for Ghana’s pre-World Cup training camp and upcoming international friendly against Wales in Cardiff.

The squad, made up of five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards, opened camp on Monday, May 25, 2026, and has already begun training at Dragon Park in Cardiff ahead of the friendly scheduled for Tuesday, June 2.

One of the biggest talking points is the return of defender Baba Abdul Rahman, who rejoins the national team for the first time since September 2023 after an impressive campaign with PAOK in Greece.

The former Chelsea FC left-back has enjoyed a strong season, making 35 appearances while contributing three goals and three assists across all competitions.

Winger Ernest Nuamah also returns to the squad after nearly a year on the sidelines. The Olympique Lyonnais forward recently recovered from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for more than 12 months.

Defender Abdul Mumin is back in contention as well after recovering from a lengthy ACL injury spell with Rayo Vallecano. Midfielder Augustine Boakye of AS Saint-Étienne and defender Alidu Seidu of Stade Rennais FC have also earned recalls.

Another notable inclusion is 20-year-old Paul Reverson, who has been invited for further assessment after impressing with the youth setup of AFC Ajax in the Netherlands.

The Wales friendly forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Ghana will open their Group L campaign against Panama in Toronto before facing England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia.
