Parliament Pays Tribute to Ghanaian Workers on May Day

Parliament has joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Workers’ Day, extending appreciation to Ghanaian workers for their dedication and contribution to national development.

In a brief statement shared on its Facebook page on Thursday, May 1, Parliament expressed gratitude to workers across the country for their hard work and commitment.

“On this day, Parliament joins the global community to celebrate International Workers’ Day and extends its warmest greetings and profound gratitude to every Ghanaian worker,” the statement said.

May Day, observed annually on May 1, is recognised worldwide as a day to honour workers and acknowledge their role in the growth of society and the economy.

In Ghana, the occasion is traditionally marked with parades, speeches from labour leaders and government officials, as well as discussions on workers’ welfare and conditions of service.

The celebration also serves as an opportunity for organised labour to engage government on key concerns including wages, job security and workplace safety.

This year’s observance comes at a time when many labour unions are calling for improved working conditions and fair remuneration amid ongoing economic challenges.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) is expected to lead activities across the country to commemorate the day.
