The extradition hearing of Asante Akyem North MP, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, is scheduled for November 18, 2026, in the Netherlands, as he remains in custody in Amsterdam after failing in two attempts to secure bail.
Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, disclosed this during a Leaders’ Media Briefing on Tuesday, November 3, explaining that both the initial bail application filed by the legislator’s legal team and a subsequent appeal had been rejected by the Dutch authorities.
According to Dafeamekpor, the MP remains in Amsterdam as he continues to go through the judicial process, with the November 18 hearing expected to determine whether he should be extradited to the United States to face the allegations against him.
He also dismissed reports suggesting that Frimpong had already been transferred to the United States, clarifying that the legislator is still in the Netherlands awaiting the outcome of the proceedings.
“We have failed to secure bail for him in respect of the two applications that were brought before the court. And so he is still in Amsterdam, in custody,” Dafeamekpor said.
He appealed to the public to remember the detained MP in their prayers, expressing hope that the hearing would go well and allow him to return to Ghana and resume his parliamentary duties.
Frimpong was arrested at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on May 10, 2026, following an extradition request from the United States.
His arrest has been linked to allegations involving romance scams and money laundering. However, the allegations remain unproven, and the extradition proceedings are expected to determine whether he will be handed over to US authorities to face the case.
