Medeama SC have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League after a dominant 5–2 victory over Heart of Lions at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday, sealing the title with a game to spare in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
The Mauve and Yellow produced a ruthless attacking display to confirm their place at the top of Ghanaian football, moving five points clear and making the final matchday irrelevant in the title race.
Kelvin Obeng and Derrick Fordjour were the standout performers, each scoring twice, while Prince Owusu added the fifth goal to complete a convincing win that underlined Medeama’s superiority in the closing stages of the season.
The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations in Tarkwa as Medeama lifted the league title for the second time in their history, having previously won it in the 2022/23 season. The triumph also marks their return to the summit after three years.
The victory continues a remarkable run of dominance for clubs from the Western Region, which has now produced four consecutive league champions: Medeama in 2022/23, FC Samartex in 2023/24, Bibiani Gold Stars in 2024/25, and Medeama once again in 2025/26.
Medeama’s success has been built on consistency, strong home form, and an ability to deliver in decisive moments when the pressure was at its highest.
Their coronation was confirmed even before kickoff of some remaining fixtures, thanks in part to Dreams FC’s 3–1 victory over defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars. That result ended Gold Stars’ hopes of retaining the title and mathematically sealed Medeama’s championship.
Suraj Seidu scored twice in that match, with Jonathan Nemorden also on the scoresheet, while Gold Stars’ frustrations deepened after they finished with nine men following multiple red cards.
While the title race is now settled, the battle for the top four remains wide open heading into the final round of matches.
Aduana FC strengthened their position with a convincing 3–1 win over Young Apostles in Dormaa, with Patrick Mensah scoring twice and Bright Agyei adding the third after coming off the bench.
FC Samartex also boosted their continental hopes with a narrow 1–0 win over Hearts of Oak. Gabriel Osei’s second-half strike secured all three points, further denting Hearts’ inconsistent campaign.
In Bechem, Bechem United produced one of the weekend’s standout performances, defeating Asante Kotoko 3–1 to secure their Premier League survival. Augustine Okrah starred with a brace against his former club in a result that ensured safety for the Hunters.
At the other end of the table, Karela United kept their survival hopes alive with a dramatic late win over Swedru All Blacks, courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from Zaidan Mohammed.
Vision FC also claimed a crucial 1–0 win over Nations FC in a tense relegation battle. Faruk Mohammed scored the only goal, while goalkeeper Godwin Ametefe became the hero with a stoppage-time penalty save that could prove vital in their survival fight.
Elsewhere, Berekum Chelsea continued their strong finish to the season with a comfortable 2–0 win over already relegated Eleven Wonders, with goals from Abubakari Seidu and Marvin Owusu.
With Medeama confirmed as champions, attention now shifts to the final day of the season, where the remaining questions including top-four qualification and relegation survival are still to be decided.
It has been a season defined by drama, shifting fortunes, and dominant performances, but Medeama’s consistency ultimately set them apart. Tarkwa celebrates once again as the Premier League crown returns home.
