President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project, a major mixed-use development expected to add new residential, hospitality, commercial and leisure facilities to Accra.
The project will include about 582 premium apartments, a 600-room hotel and a conference facility with a seating capacity of 2,500 people.
It will also feature healthcare facilities, a modern shopping mall, landscaped gardens and 503 parking spaces within a four-storey apartment building, alongside other commercial and leisure facilities.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 15, President Mahama called for Ghanaian professionals and businesses to be given meaningful opportunities to participate in the project.
He specifically mentioned engineers, architects, artisans, technicians, suppliers and other local businesses, stressing that their involvement would help ensure that the investment creates wider economic opportunities for Ghanaians.
President Mahama also expressed optimism that the expansion of conference facilities in Accra would position the city to host major international events, including conferences organised by the United Nations.
According to him, developing facilities capable of accommodating high-profile international events would further strengthen Accra’s position as a destination for global conferences and business activities.
