Justice Atuguba questions delay in appointing Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister

A retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice William Atuguba, has questioned why the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has not been appointed to a ministerial position in the Mahama administration.

Justice Atuguba praised Dr. Zanetor as a politician of principle, dedication and integrity, arguing that her leadership qualities and conduct make her deserving of a ministerial role.

He made the remarks at a memorial lecture held in honour of the first Speaker of the Fourth Republic Parliament, Justice D.F. Annan, on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

According to Justice Atuguba, Dr. Zanetor represents the kind of politician whose commitment to public service should serve as an example to others.

“Somebody like Zanetor Rawlings, she is not a politician. She is a woman of the people. I have been following her activities. I have never spoken to her, I have never met her, but I am convinced that she is the kind of politician people should aspire to be,” he said.

He added: “Up till now, that is why I don’t get involved in politics. I don’t know why she is not yet a Minister. I hope by saying that I have not destroyed her chances.”

Justice Atuguba further questioned why a person with Dr. Zanetor’s qualities had not been considered for a ministerial appointment.

“Why not? Such a woman of principle, of dedication, of integrity , why not?” he asked.

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings’ name has recently been mentioned among possible candidates for the position of substantive Defence Minister, following the vacancy created in the ministry.

Although no official announcement has been made, some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed support for her potential appointment.
