The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that the Ghana national football team will not play a final preparatory international friendly before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite earlier plans to arrange one more test match.
The association had been exploring the possibility of giving head coach Carlos Queiroz an additional opportunity to assess his squad following Ghana’s goalless draw with Wales in Cardiff on June 2.
Discussions were held with Jamaica and Honduras over a potential behind-closed-doors friendly. However, both engagements failed to produce a timely confirmation.
According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, the inability to secure opposition teams within the required timeframe ultimately forced the cancellation of the planned match.
He explained that Ghana would have had to fully cover the costs of the friendly, including logistics and organisation, since the initiative originated from their side.
“We succeeded in securing the venue, but the opponents did not give us positive feedback. As we speak, there is nothing on the table,” he said.
With the plan now shelved, the Black Stars will head into their remaining preparations without an additional friendly fixture before the global tournament.
