The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released outstanding 2023 Capitation Grant arrears to District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to public basic schools across the country.
In a letter dated September 14, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors, the GES said the funds had been transferred to the respective district accounts.
The Service has directed Regional Directors to ensure that the money reaches the schools before the reopening of the first term of the 2026/2027 academic year.
According to the GES, the transfers to the district accounts include the Sports and Culture component meant for District Offices, while allocations for Regional Sports and Culture have been sent to designated accounts of the Regional Offices.
The GES said the timely release of the funds would enable heads of basic schools to operate effectively when schools reopen.
“Regional Directors are therefore by this letter, requested to ensure that the funds are transferred to the schools on or before the reopening of the 1st term 2026/2027 academic year to enable Heads of Basic Schools to operate seamlessly,” the Service stated.
The GES has also announced that a monitoring team from its headquarters will visit the regions to assess the transfer and disbursement of the funds.
Regional authorities have therefore been urged to ensure that the money is transferred to the schools without delay.
The Capitation Grant supports the day-to-day operations of public basic schools and is intended to help reduce financial barriers to basic education.
