The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has defended National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s right to contest the party’s presidential primaries, citing his years of dedicated service to the party.
He said Mr Asiedu Nketia was qualified to seek the presidency if he wished, stressing that his position as National Chairman should not prevent him from pursuing the highest political office.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Tuesday, November 3, Mr Kwetey, however, clarified that acknowledging the chairman’s credentials did not amount to endorsing his potential candidature.
He maintained that the decision on who should lead the NDC into the next general election must be left to party members through the established selection process.
“It shouldn’t be a problem at all. I mean, he qualifies to run for president,” Mr Kwetey said.
He further indicated that every qualified aspirant should have a fair opportunity to contest for the party’s flagbearership, adding that Mr Asiedu Nketia’s participation would ultimately depend on his personal decision.
