The Government of Ghana has approved new visa waiver agreements with three countries Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia in a move aimed at expanding travel opportunities and strengthening diplomatic ties.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the decision in a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 22, stating that Cabinet had given the green light for the agreements. Once fully implemented, the arrangement will allow citizens of Ghana and the three partner countries to travel without visas for short stays.
According to the Minister, the visa-free policy will apply to all categories of passports, including ordinary, service, and diplomatic passports. Travellers will be permitted to stay for up to 30 days per visit without the need for a visa.
Hon Ablakwa added that the agreements will, in due course, be presented to Parliament for ratification before they take full effect.
He also indicated that the government remains committed to pursuing more visa waiver deals with other countries, while at the same time tightening security measures surrounding the issuance of Ghanaian passports.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote international cooperation, ease movement for citizens, and position Ghana as a more accessible destination for global travel.
