Cabinet Approves New E-Visa Policy

Ghana is set to transform its travel and entry procedures following Cabinet’s approval of a new electronic visa (e-Visa) policy aimed at boosting tourism and attracting business investment.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the decision in a post on X, describing the initiative as a major step toward modernising the country’s immigration processes. According to him, the e-Visa system will primarily serve travellers visiting Ghana for business and tourism, offering a faster and more convenient alternative to traditional visa applications.

He emphasised that the policy reflects Ghana’s commitment to positioning itself as a welcoming and accessible destination on the global stage. At a time when travel restrictions and barriers persist in some parts of the world, he noted that Ghana is sending a clear message of openness.

“When others make you feel unwelcome, Ghana says this is your home to invest and to enjoy the beauty of nature,” he stated.

The Minister also linked the new policy to President John Dramani Mahama’s broader economic vision, recalling his declaration during inauguration that Ghana is “open for business again.” He explained that the e-Visa system is one of several strategic measures designed to reinforce that message and make entry into the country more seamless for international visitors.

Beyond convenience, the policy is expected to integrate strong security features. Ablakwa assured that the digital system will be backed by a robust vetting architecture to safeguard national security while improving efficiency in processing applications.

He added that the initiative forms part of a wider government agenda to “reset Ghana,” leveraging technology and smart policy reforms to drive growth across key sectors, including tourism, trade, and investment.

With the introduction of the e-Visa regime, Ghana aims to strengthen its reputation as one of Africa’s most peaceful, stable, and business-friendly destinations while making travel into the country simpler and more attractive for the global community.
