Asante Otchere Questions John Boadu’s Political Weight Against Asiedu Nketiah

Political analyst Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere has questioned whether newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman John Boadu has the political pedigree and stature to match his National Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

His comments followed the election of new NPP national executives at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom with Nana Tuffour Boateng on Sunday, October 4, Dr Asante Otchere said the comparison between Mr Boadu and Mr Asiedu Nketiah raised questions about their respective political experience, gravitas and influence.

“I have nothing personal against the chairman that has been elected. But you will have to contextualise what he’s bringing on board,” he said.

“Put the two together and you tell me whether John Boadu comes even halfway in terms of pedigree, in terms of gravitas, in terms of value with respect to Mr Asiedu Nketiah,” he added.

Dr Asante Otchere also questioned what had changed within the NPP since Mr Boadu was previously rejected in the party’s national executive elections.

According to him, Mr Boadu’s latest victory was largely shaped by internal party dynamics rather than considerations of competence.

“I think that the only reason why John Boadu was elected is not about competency. It’s about the fact that Mr Boakye Agyarko annoys the system,” he said.

He further argued that former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko could match Mr Asiedu Nketiah in areas including communication, articulation and professional pedigree.

Dr Asante Otchere also drew attention to the profiles of the two parties’ General Secretaries, comparing the NPP’s re-elected Justin Kodua Frimpong with the NDC’s Fifi Kwetey.

He said the contrasting political profiles of the leadership of the two major parties would be an important factor in assessing their direction and leadership going forward.
