Ghana and the Philippines have agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment and labour mobility as the two countries work to deepen their bilateral relations.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his Philippine counterpart, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Mr Ablakwa commended the Philippine government for its decision to open an embassy in Ghana later this year, marking the country’s first diplomatic mission in Ghana.
According to the minister, both sides also agreed to organise business forums in Ghana and the Philippines and work towards establishing a chamber of commerce to promote trade and investment opportunities.
The two countries further agreed to exchange ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements, an area expected to support cooperation in the movement and employment of workers between both countries.
Mr Ablakwa also invited Secretary Lazaro to Ghana, saying he looked forward to hosting her as the two countries advance their bilateral cooperation.
