President John Dramani Mahama has rung the closing bell of the Nasdaq Stock Market in New York, using the high-profile occasion to showcase Ghana’s renewed investment ambitions.
The President rang the bell on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, during his engagements in the United States, where he declared that “Ghana is open for business.”
The ceremony also saw President Mahama featured on a Nasdaq billboard in Times Square with the message, “Ghana Is Open for Business,” highlighting the country’s efforts to attract international investors and strengthen economic partnerships.
The symbolic event preceded the U.S.–Ghana Presidential Roundtable, which brought together stakeholders to discuss business, investment and opportunities for deeper economic cooperation between Ghana and the United States.
Speaking at the event, President Mahama expressed appreciation to Nasdaq for the opportunity and noted that the ceremony was followed closely by people in Ghana.
“NASDAQ, we thank you very much. It was carried live, and people were watching from Ghana, and everybody’s sending me texts; we saw you on NASDAQ ringing the bell,” he said.
According to President Mahama, the occasion provided an opportunity to highlight the longstanding economic relationship between Ghana and the United States, while also exploring areas where businesses from both countries can work together.
He said the roundtable was taking place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and would provide an opportunity for a focused discussion on business and investment.
President Mahama further said Ghana had continued efforts to restore macroeconomic stability, strengthen public finances and rebuild confidence in the economy.
He said the country remained committed to creating an environment that would support investment, business growth and stronger economic ties with the United States.
