The government has committed approximately $200 million to expand tree crop production in Ghana, with the cashew sector expected to receive a significant share of the investment.
Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare announced the commitment on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during the closing gala dinner of the 2026 African Cashew Alliance Annual Cashew Conference and Expo.
According to the Minister, the investment is aimed at increasing tree crop production, promoting value addition and strengthening Ghana’s position in international agricultural markets.
She said cashew stands to benefit substantially from the investment, given the sector’s potential to contribute to Ghana’s agricultural and industrial growth.
“The government of Ghana is committing approximately $200 million to tree crop production, of which cashew stands to benefit substantially,” she said.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare also called for stronger cooperation among African cashew-producing countries, urging them to see one another as partners rather than competitors in the global market.
She specifically mentioned Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Nigeria, Tanzania and Mozambique, among other producing countries, and encouraged them to work together to build a stronger and more competitive African cashew industry.
The Minister further appealed to development partners and private investors to support Ghana’s cashew sector, particularly in processing infrastructure, grading technology and certification.
“To our development partners and investors, the door is open. Invest in our processing infrastructure, our grading technology and our certification, just to mention a few,” she added.
The $200 million commitment forms part of efforts to expand Ghana’s tree crop industry, increase local processing and create greater value from agricultural products before they reach international markets.
