Ghana’s Black Satellites have been eliminated from the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after playing out a goalless draw with Togo in their final Group B match on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
The game, played at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, saw Ghana control large portions of the contest and create several promising opportunities, but Maxwell Konadu’s side struggled to turn their dominance into goals.
The Black Satellites thought they had found the breakthrough at one point, but their effort was ruled out, leaving Ghana to settle for a point.
The result means Ghana finished third in Group B with two points from three matches. Their campaign began with a defeat to Nigeria, followed by draws against Burkina Faso and Togo, results that were not enough to secure a place in the knockout stage.
Although the early exit will be disappointing, the tournament provided valuable competitive experience for Ghana’s young squad, who faced some of the region’s strongest youth teams.
For head coach Maxwell Konadu and his technical team, the competition also offered an opportunity to assess the players and identify areas that need improvement ahead of the team’s next major assignment.
The Black Satellites, however, already have their sights set on the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ghana will participate as the host nation.
With qualification already secured, Ghana will now use the coming months to strengthen the squad and build towards the continental tournament.
CAF is yet to announce the official dates and venues for the 2027 U-20 AFCON. In the meantime, the National Sports Authority is upgrading sporting facilities across the country to ensure Ghana is ready to host the competition.
The WAFU B exit therefore brings an end to Ghana’s regional campaign, but it also marks the beginning of preparations for a much bigger challenge on home soil in 2027.
