Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), has reportedly been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties, according to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah.
Aboagye, who also serves as an aide to the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra International Airport over an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement irregularities.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Monday, July 13, Ahiagbah said the party is hopeful the bail conditions will either be met or reviewed to facilitate Aboagye’s release.
“My earlier briefing was GH¢50 million with three sureties. I hope that condition is either met or varied for him to be granted bail,” he said.
EOCO has stated that Aboagye’s arrest is connected to investigations into the alleged mismanagement of about GH¢55 million during his time as Executive Secretary of IMCCoD.
He was arrested together with the Secretariat’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, as part of the probe.
According to EOCO, the agency had placed Aboagye on a stop list a week before his arrest. However, he had already travelled out of the country before the directive could be enforced.
The anti-graft agency said officers of the Ghana Immigration Service intercepted him upon his arrival at the Accra International Airport on Saturday, July 11, and handed him over to EOCO investigators the following morning.
EOCO also disclosed that Aboagye accompanied investigators on a search operation on Sunday as part of the ongoing investigation, with further searches expected to continue.
