The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the deadline for filing selected tax returns from June 30 to Monday, July 6, 2026, to ease the burden on taxpayers affected by the recent flooding in Accra.
The extension applies to taxpayers who were due to file their returns by June 30 but were unable to do so because heavy rains and widespread flooding disrupted transportation, businesses and access to public services.
In a statement, the GRA said the decision was taken after considering the challenges many individuals and businesses encountered in meeting their statutory obligations.
“The GRA has extended the filing deadline to Monday, July 6, 2026,” the Authority announced, assuring taxpayers that those who submit their returns within the new deadline will not incur penalties for late filing.
The relief is expected to benefit businesses, individuals and tax practitioners, particularly those operating in flood-affected areas where roads became impassable, offices were closed and commercial activities were interrupted.
Although the GRA has expanded its digital tax filing and payment systems in recent years, the Authority acknowledged that the floods affected more than physical movement. Many taxpayers struggled to access business records, internet services and professional support needed to complete their tax returns.
The extension gives affected taxpayers additional time to organise their documents and file their returns without facing sanctions for delays caused by circumstances beyond their control.
The move also highlights the Authority’s willingness to show administrative flexibility during emergencies, recognising that natural disasters can disrupt normal business operations and make compliance difficult.
While the deadline has been postponed, the GRA reminded taxpayers that the obligation to file their returns remains unchanged. All affected individuals and businesses are expected to complete their submissions by July 6.
