Ronaldo Makes History as First Player to Score in Six World Cup Tournaments

Cristiano Ronaldo has once again written his name into football history after becoming the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments.

The Portugal captain reached the landmark on Tuesday when he struck early in his side’s Group stage match against Uzbekistan in Houston. Ronaldo needed just six minutes to find the net, reacting quickly inside the box to give Portugal an early lead and set the tone for a dominant performance.

The goal adds another remarkable chapter to a World Cup journey that began 20 years ago. Ronaldo first scored on the global stage at the 2006 World Cup in Germany against Iran, and has since gone on to feature and score in every edition he has played, extending his legacy across two decades.

His latest milestone comes after criticism surrounding his recent form in major international tournaments. Prior to the Uzbekistan game, Ronaldo had gone 10 matches in elite competitions without a goal and had recorded just one assist, leading to renewed debate about his influence at the highest level.

Questions had also surfaced following Portugal’s opening 1-1 draw against DR Congo, where the team struggled to finish chances despite controlling large parts of the game. Some critics even compared his recent international output to that of modern stars such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

However, Ronaldo responded in trademark fashion in Houston. He came close to scoring earlier in the match when he failed to connect with a cross from Nuno Mendes at the far post, a missed opportunity that briefly showed his frustration. But he made no mistake shortly after, calmly converting from close range to restore confidence and put Portugal ahead.

Now 41, Ronaldo continues to defy expectations at the highest level. Despite playing club football with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, he maintained strong scoring form during the 2025–26 season, netting 28 goals in 30 league appearances.

From his first World Cup goal in 2006 to this latest record-breaking strike in 2026, Ronaldo’s consistency and longevity have set him apart as one of football’s most enduring figures.
