Bellingham admits MOTM award should have gone to Ghana defender after England stalemate

England midfielder Jude Bellingham has admitted that he did not deserve the Player of the Match award following England’s goalless draw with Ghana in a tightly contested World Cup Group L encounter.

The match, which ended 0-0, saw Ghana produce a disciplined and organised defensive performance that successfully contained England’s attack for the full 90 minutes. Despite dominating possession at various stages, England struggled to break through a well-structured Black Stars backline.

Bellingham, who was substituted in the 73rd minute after finding it difficult to influence the game, was still named the official Player of the Match. However, the Real Madrid star later expressed surprise at the decision and redirected praise toward Ghana’s defensive unit.

“I didn’t deserve it, to be honest,” he said. “It probably should have gone to one of their players who defended really well. I had a couple of moments, but I couldn’t really get into the game. I’m grateful either way.”

Ghana’s defensive shape and tactical discipline proved decisive in neutralising England’s attacking threats, with the backline maintaining composure under sustained pressure. Their performance ensured a valuable point for the Black Stars as both teams remain level on points in the group.

The result leaves the group finely balanced heading into the final round of fixtures, with Ghana’s defensive resilience once again drawing attention on the global stage.
