Prez Mahama Sets March 2027 Deadline for First 700 Saglemi Housing Units

President John Dramani Mahama has set March 2027 as the deadline for the completion and commissioning of the first 700 housing units at the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project.

The President made the announcement on Thursday, August 20, 2026, during a tour of the project, where he inspected ongoing work to revive the housing development after years of inactivity.

He said the government is targeting the completion of 1,500 housing units at Saglemi by the end of 2027 as part of efforts to expand access to affordable housing and help address Ghana’s housing deficit.

President Mahama noted that several challenges had affected the project over the years, including the theft of electrical cables and other infrastructure.

He said measures were being put in place to secure the facilities and prevent such incidents from happening again.

The President also encouraged prospective homeowners to prepare to register once the official application portal is opened.

“When the portal is open, those who want to move to the beautiful home should register,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of LMI Holdings, the developer of the project, Kojo Aduhene, said work on critical infrastructure was progressing across the estate.

He said the ongoing works include underground cabling, clearing overgrown vegetation and improving water supply infrastructure.

“We’re doing all the underground cabling, clearing the weeds, and water will not be a problem because we’ve got a water plant ready in the Dawa Industrial Area and it’s enough to supply water for all the units,” Mr Aduhene said.

He added that the estate would also have internet connectivity to give residents access to essential digital services.

The Saglemi Affordable Housing Project, located along the Accra-Aflao Highway, has remained largely unoccupied for several years, despite a number of housing units having been completed.

The government has now renewed efforts to complete and operationalise the project, with the first 700 units expected to be ready by March 2027 and a total of 1,500 units targeted by the end of the year.
