President Mahama Says New E-Visa Platform Will Boost Security and Speed Up Passenger Processing

President John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana’s newly launched electronic visa platform will strengthen border security and improve the country’s ability to monitor passenger movements in real time.

Speaking at the official launch of the e-visa system on Monday, May 25, President Mahama explained that the digital platform would help immigration and security agencies access passenger information faster and more efficiently, enhancing intelligence-led operations at the country’s entry points.

According to him, the initiative builds on earlier efforts to modernise Ghana’s border management and align the country with internationally accepted aviation and migration standards.

“This initiative laid the foundation for smarter, more secure and more efficient border management. These systems have significantly enhanced our capacity to receive real-time passenger data, strengthening intelligence-led security operations and aligning Ghana with internationally accepted aviation and migration standards. So today’s launch is just building on the foundation of what we started,” he stated.

President Mahama noted that the newly approved e-visa policy forms part of the government’s broader agenda to modernise travel and immigration procedures while promoting tourism, trade and foreign investment.

He added that the digital visa platform is expected to simplify visa application processes for tourists and business travellers, reducing delays and improving the overall travel experience for visitors entering Ghana.

The e-visa system also forms part of ongoing efforts to digitise public services and improve Ghana’s competitiveness as a destination for international business and tourism.
