Petroleum prices at the pumps are expected to record marginal increases from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, according to projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC).
The expected increases will affect petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), largely driven by changes in international prices of refined petroleum products.
COPEC’s analysis shows that although global crude oil prices declined slightly and the Ghana cedi strengthened against the US dollar during the current pricing window, consumers may still pay more at the pumps.
Crude oil prices fell from $90.41 per barrel to $89.30, while the cedi appreciated by about 2.39%, moving from an average of GH¢11.80 to the dollar at the beginning of the pricing window to GH¢11.5166 at its close.
Despite these developments, changes in the Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products are expected to push local prices upward.
Petrol is projected to sell at about GH¢16.21 per litre, representing an estimated 5% increase from the current average price of GH¢15.43.
Diesel could rise to approximately GH¢17.61 per litre, up by about 2.58% from the current average price of GH¢17.17.
LPG is also expected to record a marginal increase, with COPEC projecting a price of about GH¢14.19 per kilogramme.
If oil marketing companies adjust their prices in line with COPEC’s projections, motorists and households could begin paying more for petroleum products from the start of September.
